Becky Fixter-Vagners
Becky was born in 1964 in Dorval, Quebec. Becky spent her formative years in Kitchener and Thornhill, Ontario. She attended York University in Toronto, Ontario, where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology.
Becky's abstract works on canvas are heavily influenced by her educational background. Her lively and expressive pieces are an exploration of the human spirit and our individual and collective struggles for self discovery as we seek identity, meaning, affiliation, connection and purpose. Her work reflects the essential balance of positive and negative elements intrinsic in nature and human existence: joy and sorrow, achievement and loss, strength and frailty, growth and decay.
Her method involves applying thick layers of paint and then spontaneously, frenetically blending, scratching and scraping to pull the image forth . She often utilizes unconventional techniques, rarely limiting herself to a paint brush. Her spontaneous, intuitive style of work allows her to illuminate the inspiring and unpredictable nature of colour, texture and form in her resulting compositions.
Becky works in a home studio, in close harmony with nature.
